Snap Mesh – Posable Pieces

An ongoing problem for the different parts of the workshop is task lighting – the different projects and hobbies require different modes and arrangements of lights for optimal brightness.

I wonder if we could use the pre-designed ball-joint connectors from TinkerCad to build a snap together flexible mesh for mounting LEDs for a re-configurable light source for the work bench…

Test 1 was an experiment to see if the pieces could usefully lock together with enough tension to hold their own weight, much less an LED and wire payload. Two pieces locked together have great tension, so a larger test was worthwhile:

The series of ten nodes in the mesh still has great tension between pieces, holding shapes and arrangements even under light load, while being fairly easy to arrange. The next step will be modifying the design to hold NeoPixels, and designing a base that can hold an Arduino as a light controller.
